Chery to begin selling third EV model in June
Automotive News China | 2017/5/19

Chery Automobile Co. plans to launch sales of its third electric vehicle, a compact sedan, next month to expand its EV lineup.

The car, a variant of Chery's Arrizo 5, is powered by lithium ion batteries and has a maximum speed of 152 kilometers per hour (94 mph) and a range of 351 km (218 miles) on a single charge, according to the company.

Chery has yet to disclose the car's price.

The company also is building an EV assembly plant in Wuhu, a city in east China's Anhui province.

The factory will produce up to 100,000 EVs a year, raising Chery's annual EV production capacity to 160,000 vehicles.

The company markets two electric minicars, the eQ and eQ1. Last year, Chery's EV sales in China jumped 48 percent to 20,963 vehicles.

Chery, a state-owned automaker headquartered in Wuhu, also sold 363,300 gasoline-powered vehicles last year, up 17 percent from a year earlier.
