VW Group deliveries rise 1.5% in April
Automotive News China | 2017/5/16

WOLFSBURG, Germany -- Volkswagen Group's various brands sold 299,700 vehicles in China last month, up 1.5 percent year on year despite the continuing struggles of its Audi luxury brand.

The German automaker's namesake Volkswagen brand reported a 4.3 percent increase in deliveries on strong demand for crossovers. But Audi sales fell 6.9 percent, while Skoda deliveries declined 12 percent.

Despite mixed results, VW remains China's biggest foreign automaker. Last month, rival General Motors sold 272,770 vehicles, down 1.9 percent.

But Volkswagen may have trouble maintaining momentum. Although the company has enjoyed strong demand for the redesigned VW Tiguan, with sales of the compact crossover up nearly 43 percent last month, Audi has not resolved its dispute with dealers over its plans to launch a second distribution network. (See related story in today's newsletter.)

As a result, VW China's group sales fell 4.8 percent in the first four months to 1.19 million vehicles.
