Honda, Toyota boost China sales in April
Automotive News China | 2017/5/12

BEIJING -- Honda Motor Co.'s China deliveries soared 29 percent year on year to 109,518 vehicles in April, as the automaker outpaced rivals Nissan Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp.

For the same period, Toyota's deliveries rose 7.2 percent to 108,300 vehicles, while Nissan sales increased 9.5 percent to 105,324.

All three automakers have benefited from the troubles of Hyundai Motor Co., which suffered a sharp sales decline this year after China denounced South Korea for letting the U.S. deploy an anti-missile system in South Korea.

For the first four months, Honda sales in China have risen 20 percent to 414,814 vehicles, Nissan deliveries increased 6.3 percent to 419,671 and Toyota sales rose 3.1 percent to 404,400.

Honda has benefited from its strong lineup of small and midsize crossovers in China. Meanwhile, Nissan is testing consumer demand in China for its Navara pickup, which it displayed last month at the Shanghai auto show.

For its part, Toyota has said it will introduce plug-in hybrid cars in China next year. The company also plans to introduce a pure electric vehicle, although it hasn't offered a time frame.
